sanctuary sculpture

This tryptich was commissioned by the City of Bradford to celebrate the long tradition of immigrants arriving into the city from numerous locations over the last 300 years. The images are carved on paving slabs from the city streets. The first shows footprints caught in time. The second lists places of origin and year of transport. The third slab has 'tintype' photo plates indented into the surface, these are some of the earliest types of photographs and record the faces of immigrants from about 1890.
