The Manchester cenotaph

In 2014 the Manchester cenotaph was relocated to make way for improved transport infrastructure. The memorial was extensively restored and re-sited in a much larger remembrance courtyard. As part of these works I partially recut the inscriptions to improve their legibility. This was a tricky and subtle process. I also carved a new crown for the north face which had suffered badly from erosion. The crown on the South face was less erroded and remains intact. The process of measuring, making templates for carving and copying the south crown was painstaking as no original drawings or close-up photos could be sourced.
